Devotional Classics
Do you find yourself hungering and thirsting for something deeper but you can’t commit to a regular set of evenings for a programme? How about something that is internet-based?
“Devotional Classics” is a wonderful collection of 52 short selections of writing from some of the greatest Christian spiritual authors of all time. Designed to be read one-per-week each selection features an introduction, the reading, a biblical passage, discussion questions and a reflection.
Each participant will purchase the book, read the selection for the week, and participate in the on-line discussion here. Because this is an internet-based group you can read and post responses whenever your schedule permits. You can say as little or as much as you like.
(We will coach you in using the technology if you wish!)
There will also be an opportunity to gather in person on the last Sunday evening of each month at Faith United.
This will be our Lenten Study programme this year, and will then continue on throughout the entire year.
How it works...
Each Sunday beginning February 21st 2010 the discussion questions for that week will be posted as a new forum topic. All you have to do is read, log in, and share your response.
Logging in...
In order to participate you'll need to get a log in for our site. On the homepage go to the User Login box on the left side and click the "Create New Account" link. Fill in the information and click "Create New Account". Within a day or two our web-master will send you an email to complete the registration.
Posting...
Posting is simple - just click "add new comment" at the bottom of the intro post each week - or, if you want to respond to what another participant said just click "reply" at the bottom of their post. Fill in a subject line, write your note in the large box, and click the "preview" button. This will take you to a preview of your post. You can edit it if you'd like, and when you're ready click "Save". Simple!
Expectations...
We would like everyone to post at least once each week. Even if all you have to say about the reading is, "I liked it." or "That was interesting" or "I just didn't get to it this week" we would like you to post. In an in-person group you can be present and participate without talking, but in this forum (pardon the pun) you have to post at least minimally to be part of it. Otherwise, it will feel like only a couple of people having a conversation.
Join anytime...
You don't have to begin on February 21st to be part of this discussion. It will go for a whole year and you can join anytime.

I note that you said we will be meeting the last Sunday of the month in person in the evening. That would be this week, correct? Do you have a time in mind? The youth group is going to Pickering Village UC this week for the Presbytery event (and meets every Sunday from 6:15 to 8:15) and so I personally can't make the meeting, but just for information for future months, what did you have in mind for this?
Thanks Diana - I had forgotten to talk about this! I'll post a note on the main forum.
