100620 Gregory of Nyssa pp. 121-128

I'm sorry but I was unable to post the questions last week - not a good week.  So rather than skip the chapter, i am going to post what would have been last week's discussion this week and we will just move forward from there.

1. Gregory of Nyssa compares the spiritual journey to a race. Using that metaphor, what kind of race has your spiritual journey been A sprint? A marathon? An obstacle course? A downhill coast? An uphill climb?
2. Think of some of the people who have "cheered you on" in your spiritual journey. How did they "exhort, urge, and encourage" you?
3. Does Gregory believe that it is possible to be perfect?  Why or why not?
4. Which Bible characters have been "beacons of light" for you? How have their stories inspired you"
5. Paul says that he has not atttained perfection or been made perfect yet, but he presses on to take hold of something. For what does he strive? For what are you earnestly striving (what are your goals and desires in life)?

1. My spiritual journey has been bit of an obstacle course.  There have been times that I have had challenges, and found it tough to get through, or work through the obstacles.  However, I now feel that Iam getting on track for a uphill climb - in a good way.   An uphill climb to a bigger and better undstanding of spirituality.  I look at the uphill climb as being alot of work.  And why shouldn't it be ?
4. Saint Anne is the Bible character that has been my beacon of light.  She was a wife, a mother, a mother in law, and grandmother.  Her story of being an amazing woman has inspired me.

I once had a very realistic dream. I was walking within a long line of people who were from biblical times. We were in the desert, and although there were all kinds of people walking with us I became aware of a kinship with Rebecca and Leah who were walking closest to me and with whom I appeared to be related. There was a sense that my place in the line was being acknowledged. There were no words spoken in the dream, but a deep moving conversation took place that seemed to stretch back for eons, an uninterrupted dialogue dug out from deep within my unconscious that then drifted out into the open and unfurling ahead of me into the distance led the way. There was a knowing inside me, shared with the other women, a wisdom that somehow moved among us. The act of walking was so fluid that it felt like we floated in and out of one another, yet we each remained separate and unique. I awoke from this dream believing I had been given a gift. I understood that my faith had always been a journey even before I fully recognized faith as a part of my make up. It was a bit like dreaming myself awake in mid journey.
